Paula Cannan

Paula is a registered clinical psychologist who currently specialises in working with individuals aged 18 years and older.

Paula has 15 years of experience working in primary and secondary health care services and private practice in the Mid Canterbury region.

Paula is comfortable working with a broad range of psychological issues and has a special interest in working with trauma, sexual abuse, depression, anxiety (panic attacks, worry, phobias, social anxiety, health anxiety, obsessive-compulsive anxiety), stress/adjustment problems, grief and loss, assertiveness and self-esteem issues. 

Paula is trained in eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy (EMDR), an effective psychological intervention for treating trauma. She works primarily from this model and incorporates cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based and dialectical behaviour therapies in her work.

Paula is a member of the NZ College of Clinical Psychologists and EMDR New Zealand.
